Biography
One of the most famous groups in Klatovy. Their career developed after the band participation on the metal compilation Breath Of Doom and since that time they played in dozens of concerts and several festivals.
The band Promises had been formed in 1994 under the name Gothic Darkness. Under this name they played just one gig. In the beginning of 1996, they have changed their name to Promises. In January 1997 the band recorded the first demo "Promises 96" - five tracks and a spine of their concert set. One of the song also appeared on the CD compilation „Breath of Doom“. In 1997 the new singer Viktor Svoboda came with an idea to sing in English.
The same year they made their demo "Understanding" that was released in June 1998 by Metal Breath Production. In this period the band had concerts, participated on another two compilations and prepared new material for their first CD (October 2000, release by Metal Breath Production). In the beginning 1999 Promises recorded one cover version of song "Vecny navrat" from the Czech cult band Master's Hammer (released by Redblack Productions / M.A.B. Records). In November 1999 the drummer Pavel Kotesovec left the band, but he worked with the band like a guest up to the finish of the debut album. Recording of a new material for CD started on 5th August 2000 in Hacienda Studio, Zirovnice. Debut album „Flight To Fall“ released by Metal Breath Production in 29th November 2000. Promises found a new drummer and recorded their first video "Shadow Town" (to be found on Flight To Fall CD).
2001 - lots of concerts in Czech Republic, Germany and Austria during the year. In June 2001 two band members left (Petr Klicka – bass, Radek Cerveny – solo guitar) are leaving the band. Promises instantly gets another bass player Karel Halada and show goes on, but in November singer Viktor Svoboda leaves the band, too. Next month, Karel quits and band is waiting for Petr coming back from the US and joining the band again. The new solo guitarist is found - Michal Lidinsky. Band is looking for a new singer. The period of personal changes continues at lasts painful 3 years. In January 2005 bassguitarist Petr Klicka retires too and band is on the edge of break up. Situation is saved by Viktor Svoboda, who returns to the band. With new bassguitarist Dalibor Hiric and drummer Milan Kleiszner, Promises are finally complete. This is a list of previously unmentioned members who joined and left Promises throughout this time – drummers Richard Goldschmid and Vladislav Cejka, bassists Jan Hoffman and Jan Suchy and singers Lubos Valecek, Nada and Michaela Konvickova. Thanks to all of them for helping Promises not to break.
In 2006, Promises, now with stable team, are recording brand new EP „Last But Not Least“. Year after, in 2007, brand new album „In The Pharmacy“ is here. The descendant of „Last But Not Least“ demo was born in summer and brings fresh combination of heavy doom-rock riffs and melodic vocals, all covered with desperate atmosphere. Album was released on 30th of November 2007.
